A Sampler Quilt
Recalling the Civil War along the Kansas/Missouri Border
As the
150th anniversary of the American Civil War approaches, we want to
remember that people living in the Kansas/Missouri area knew the
trials of bloody conflict years before the War's official first
shots. Between the 1854 opening of the Kansas Territory and the 1861
Battle at Fort Sumter in South Carolina, hostilities in the
borderlands of Kansas and Missouri fueled brushfires that would
explode into the firestorm of Civil War. During the War, the area
suffered some of the worst civilian casualties. Missouri was the
scene of more official battles than many of the states in the deep
South. We are pleased
to offer this 14-month block of the month program. Each month
you will receive a different sampler block designed by historian and
quilter, Barbara Brackman, along with the collector's section of the
Kansas City Star where the pattern is published. We will
provide you with fabrics in the beautiful Butternut and Blue
coloration made popular during the Civil War not only for all 13
blocks but also your sashings, borders, and binding.
Registration fee is $25 and then $19.95 per month plus shipping.
